I have been listening to Vampire Weekends latest triumph since it came out and I have to say, they've outdone themselves!

Very impressed with it overall, with White Sky and Cousins being the standout tracks in my opinion.

i'm not really feelin' the christmas spirit. maybe because it's overwhelmed with the relief of getting out of the stress of school, or slightly shadowed by the appalling emotional state i've been in for two weeks. but...

i was so peeved that i didn't have a camera, it was beautiful.
driving home through wind and snow, listening to inni mer vitleysingur on the radio. heavenly.

- the general attitude towards celebrity. argh.
- heavy metal and rap music are not classified as music in my mind.
- any kids films with talking animals just creep me out. not cartoon ones, just real ones.
- spoiled disney brats eg. jo bros
- jumping on the musical bandwagon as soon as an artist gets in the charts. you should like their music, not just their face or clothes.
- re-makes of classic films.
- horror films are stupid. stupid. stupid.

traits in people that irritate me include..
- closemindedness
- ignorance
- inability to communicate at a human level
- disgusting bodily habits/body odour
- idolisation without significant reason
- inability to think for ones self
- mindless violence
- delusions of grandeur/superiority
- and most of all:
when people don't work hard at something,
complain about doing badly in it,
attack you for doing well at it,
and then get irate when you do not help them with it.

a very generalised sentence but you get my gist.
if you want something, then go get it.
don't depend on anybody else.
especially me.
i have enough on my plate.

Dan Kelly Dinner

my good friend dan kelly came to visit from london yesterday and we had a really amazing time. we went to the cinema to see 'New Moon' and it was almost as awful as i expected. the highlight of the film viewing experience was the woman behind us yelling "shut up" whenever the tweenage girls started to coo loudly over the ruggedly neanderthal werewolf man or the flat-faced pale-skinned vampire's hairy nipples. although i must admit that the animation was fantastic, the soundtrack was wonderful, and i am partial to a bit of robert pattison (notice the distinction between the actor and the character, a fundamental point that differentiates my crush from that of millions of deluded teenagers worldwide. the excitement as a gaggle of my friends, two of whom being avid twilighters, came over for food and moulin rouge and guitar hero. it was a hilarious evening full of jibes about bella's manly voice and a lot of wonderment over dan's 6 foot 7 inch standing height (i kid you not, he is that tall).

overall, it was a great weekend to celebrate the end of my mock examinations and prepare me for the excitement of lancaster in a weeks time. ooh, it just gets better and better.

red lipstick came out looking a treat - i decided it was picture time.

which got me thinking, is it vain to enjoy taking pictures of yourself? i find it essential to understanding how other percieve me and to just generally see how others see me. i don't understand the stigma with vanity anyway. i see a moderate amount of it to be the foundation of my personal confidence and positive self-image (as much as that phrase is overused, ugh. sickening). so don't call me self obsessed, just see my selfportraiture as an educational venture.

last night i went to see the genius who is eddie izzard at the MEN arena. it was a fantastic show, one of his best in my opinion. so these are my favourite bits, for posterity's sake i'll list them all even though out of context they will make no sense:

a lack of motivation

as opposed to my usual enthusiasm when it comes to schoolwork and revision, the past week has been absent of any such academic pursuits. waking up at midday and lounging about surfing facebook and lookbook has been both relaxing and monotonous. a week off school has left me wallowing in self-pity as mock gcse exams are looming and i have only seven days to solidify my knowlege of physics, chemistry, biology, maths, english literature and lanugage, religion and ethics, history, and spanish. STREUTH. maybe i'm some kind of sadist and enjoy putting myself in a position where i will experience the immense pain of my teachers' collective screeching: "this is the most important year of your life!" but all in all, i think it's more of a procrastination issue. putting things off to the last minute is a regular occurence for me. argh, i need to be motivated enough to work work work my little bum off in order to meet the insane targets that myself and my wonderful teachers have set for these pesky gcses. straight a*'s here we come...

the boat that rocked

not to cheapen this masterpiece of a film, but 'the boat that rocked' was by far the feel-good film of the year. a cast full of my favourite people, including rhys darby and two-thirds of the IT Crowd, and a soundtrack bursting with sixties brilliance - which i went and bought the day after seeing the movie: a first for me. the story was predictable, sure, but sweet and sour and totally nostalgic. i watched and wished to be transported back in time to this era where music was almost sacred, as opposed to the manufactured rubbish that streams from our radios today. the feeling of celebration for music was inspirational and plastered a smile on to my little face as soon as i heard the beach boys' anthemic classic coming from my iPod. "wouldn't it be nice if we were older..."

and as for the mandatory man candy, tom sturridge did not disappoint. i am enamoured with his broody, unconventional good looks (and with a best friend in robert pattinson, i'm hoping for some collaboration of these two in the very near future.)
